January 8, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Las Vegas Wranglers won 3-2 over the Utah Grizzlies in a shootout tonight, snapping the team's 10-game winless streak.
Utah was quick to get on the board as Grizzlies forward Mathieu Aubin scored just 90 seconds into the game. Wranglers center Chris Francis responded three minutes later and tied the game 1-1. The knotted game carried over into the second, and at the 12:39 mark, Grizzlies forward Michael Pelech regained the one-goal lead for his team.
Coming into the third, Wranglers goalie Mitch O'Keefe had faced 31 shots from Utah while the Wranglers had only 12 shots on net. Four minutes into the period, Wranglers center John Armstrong recorded his fifth goal of the season to tie the game 2-2. The two teams headed to overtime, but the extra five minutes eventually lead to a shootout. With Wranglers' Francis, center Chad Nehring, and defenseman Jeff May scoring in six rounds, Las Vegas won 3-2 over Utah as O'Keefe collected his second shootout win of the season after making 43 total saves. Before tonight, the Wranglers hadn't won a game since Dec. 11, 2013, when the team won 4-3 over the Colorado Eagles in a shootout.
The two teams meet again tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 11, the Wranglers head to Bakersfield to face the Condors.
