Milner Recalled to AHL by Bridgeport
January 8, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder's AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have recalled goaltender Parker Milner from the ECHL, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm announced on Wednesday.
Milner, 23, rejoins the Sound Tigers following the call-up of goalie Anders Nilsson to the NHL to replace the injured Evgeni Nabokov. This is the second time Milner has been recalled to the AHL from the Thunder this season.
The 6'1 187-pound rookie goalie from Pittsburgh, PA has started nine games for the Thunder this season posting a 3-6-0 record with a .913 save percentage and a 2.69 goals against average. Milner has been especially impressive in his last two appearances, allowing just one goal and stopping 63 out of 64 shots. He recorded his first pro-career shutout against San Francisco on January 4th. "I think he was determined to start getting some wins here," Kromm said. "I think he was getting frustrated by the fact that he hadn't been getting the wins that he probably deserved, and I think he played really well in the last couple of games."
In his first stint in the American Hockey League, Milner played in four games with three starts. He went 1-2-0 with his first AHL victory coming on December 6, against the Utica Comets.
Milner spent the last four years at Boston College where he was part of two NCAA championship teams, including his junior year where he won 19 straight contests for the Eagles on his way to being named the "Most Outstanding Player" of the NCAA Frozen Four and Regional Tournament in 2012.
The Thunder continue a five-game road trip this weekend and do not return home until Saturday, January 18, when they host their annual "Teddy Bear Toss" event at 7:30 p.m. PST. The following night, the Thunder play San Francisco at Stockton Arena with the team holding its first "Chalk Talk" of the year for Season Ticket Holders before the contest, at 2:40 p.m. Season ticket holders will have the chance to talk to Coach Kromm about anything and everything on their mind surrounding the Thunder and their season so far. In addition, Season Ticket Holders are able to pick up their gift at the Thunder Information Booth located by the North Entry beginning on January 19. For more information visit StocktonThunder.com.
