Stingrays Ignite, Topple 'Blades 4-1

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-- The Florida Everblades continued their 11 game road trip with a 4-1 loss against the South Carolina Stingrays.

The first two periods were scoreless and the third saw Paul Healey take a rebound from Matthew Pistilli to notch the only Florida goal of the game. The goal sparked the Stingrays into action and they beat the Florida Everblades 4-1 with goals from Matt Scherer, Keith Johnson, Jake Hauswirth, and Gregg Johnson.

The Florida Everblades and the South Carolina Stingrays played a scoreless first period. The Everblades committed the only two penalties. The first was called on Brad Zanon for hooking and the second on Jordan Morrison for interference on the goalkeeper. Morrison had skated in to help provide a screen, but couldn't hit the brakes and ended up crashing the net. The Stingrays took a three shot lead into the second period.

After killing off the remaining 33 seconds of Jordan Morrison's penalty the Florida Everblades went on two power plays of their own.

Though they peppered South Carolina Stingrays goalie Shane Connelly with 15 shots the Everblades were held scoreless. Mike Morrison held the division leading Stingrays scoreless and the score remained tied 0-0.

The third period began with both teams still looking to score. Brandon Buck almost made it a 1-0 game after he lifted the puck over Shane Connelly. The puck hit the cross bar and the 'Blades were left looking for their first tally. With 5:31 elapsed in the third Paul Healey knocked the puck in off of the rebound from Matthew Pistilli's shot.

The Florida goal set off a flurry of offense in South Carolina. The Stingrays gained a two goal lead after Matt Scherer, Keith Johnson,Jake Hauswirth, and Gregg Johnson all scored to make it 4-1.
