Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs were defeated by the Elmira Jackals Thursday night by a score of 6-3 at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial.
In the fifth meeting of the season between the Jackals and the Chiefs, Johnstown was the first to cash in with Connor Shields 14th goal of the season at 7:37 of the first. Assists were by Bryan Marshall and Chris Zarb. Although less than a minute later, the Jackals retaliated with Justin Donati cashing in for the first Jackals goal of the evening, with an assist by Yannick Tifu at 8:16. The first ended with another goal netted by the Jackals as Tyler Donati was the one to potted his first of the night at 18:36 with an assist from Guillaume Lepine.
Johnstown opened up the second period on a surge and earned the tying goal. Bryan Marshall wristed home a rebound after a mad scramble in front of the net. His ninth of the season, scored at 3:51, was set up by Chanse Fitzpatrick and Greg Gallagher. Johnstown wouldn't be able to pull ahead, though, with Elmira scoring a pair of goals 10 seconds apart. Olivier Proulx gave Elmira the lead back at 15:50 scoring on a rebound, and then off of the ensuing faceoff Brendan Connolly extended the Jackals' lead to two.
Elmira extended the lead to three with former Chief Jarrett Konkle netting his sixth of the season and second in as many games against his former club. Marshall tipped in his second of the game at 16:29 to pull the Chiefs back within one. Off of a faceoff win, ECHL All-Star Shields whipped a wrister on net and Marshall tipped it through Julien Ellis' five hole. Trying to net the tying goal, the Chiefs pulled John Murray for the extra attacker, but Justin Donati found the empty net for his second goal of the night.
Murray took his first loss as a Chief and made 24 saves in the game. The Chiefs went 0-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
