North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (24-8-1-3) scored four goals in the third period to defeat the Florida Everblades (16-13-2-3) 4-1 Thursday night in front of 4,516 at North Charleston Coliseum. Stingrays forward Trent Campbell recorded two assists in the Stingrays' third win in four games over the Everblades.
The Stingrays and Everblades skated a scoreless 40 minutes of hockey, but Florida controlled the momentum forcing 20 shots on Stingrays rookie goaltender Shane Connelly while Everblades goaltender Mike Morrison only had to kick away 13 Stingrays chances through two periods.
The Everblades broke the scoreless drought at 5:31 of the third period thanks to forward Paul Healey knocking in a rebound off the right leg pad of Connelly. Forward Matthew Pistilli recorded the lone assist on Healey's second goal of the season. The Stingrays responded back with four unanswered goals to cap off the game scoring. Forward Matt Scherer tied the contest at one on the power play at 8:09 with his ninth goal of the season from Gregg Johnson and Connelly. Forty-two seconds later forward Keith Johnson gave the Stingrays a 2-1 lead. Forwards Jake Hauswirth and Campbell earned the assists. Hauswirth netted a goal of his own moments later to put South Carolina up by two at 13:28 from Campbell and K. Johnson. G. Johnson iced the game at 15:19 with his eleventh of the season from forwards Spencer Carbery and Matt Fornataro. Connelly earned his fourth win of the season and first as a Stingray knocking aside 33 of 34 Everblades shots. Morrison suffered the loss pushing away 24 of 28 Stingrays opportunities. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-3 on the power play while the Everblades finished 0-for-3.
