
Stingrays Fall to Road Warriors to Close Weekend

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (38-20-2-4) dropped a 5-1 decision to the Greenville Road Warriors (36-22-2-3) on Kid's Day and Mascot Mania at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon. Forward Dale Mitchell provided the lone goal for the Stingrays.
The Road Warriors lit the lamp three times in the opening period to take a 3-0 into the first intermission. Forward Andrew Rowe scored his team-leading 26 goal of the season at 13:28 to kick off the scoring. Moments later, forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand redirected a Rowe shot past the glove of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (L, 26 saves on 31 shots) at 15:23. With under three minutes left in the frame (17:24), rookie Josh Nicholls found the back of the net to extend his personal point streak to 13 games.
Road Warriors forward Emerson Clark carried the scoring into the second period tapping a rolling puck over the glove of Jakaitis at 4:27. Nicholls made it a five-goal advantage at 16:41, before Mitchell put the Stingrays on the scoreboard 23 seconds later to close the game scoring. Forward Patrick Gaul found Mitchell on top of the crease of Road Warriors netminder Jeff Malcolm (W, 32 saves on 33 shots) and forward Anthony Collins added the second assist. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-1.
The Stingrays continue a five-game homestand on Friday, March 28 on Family Four Pack Friday against the Ft. Wayne Komets at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum!
