Wranglers Conquer Pediatric Cancer, Condors on St. Baldrick's Day

March 23, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

Las Vegas - John Armstrong, Chad Nehring and Jeff May combined for seven points as the Las Vegas Wranglers took down the Bakersfield Condors 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The contest was highlighted by a post-game event where Wranglers' players, staff and fans shaved their heads on ice to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, an annual fundraiser that the team puts on for Pediatric Cancer Research. Wranglers' goaltender Travis Fullerton made 34 saves in the victory, his fifth in his last nine starts.

For the second straight game it would be Las Vegas jumping on the board first as John Armstrong scored his 16th goal of the year to give the Wranglers a 1-0 lead 4:23 into the game. The goal, which extends Armstrong's personal point-streak to four games (4g, 4a), was assisted by Chad Nehring (15) and Greg Coburn (10). Nehring would then grab a goal of his own, putting Las Vegas on top 2-0 at the 12:26 mark in the first period, assisted by Armstrong (17) and Jeff May (11). For Nehring, the goal sets a new ECHL career-high in scoring, and gives him three points (1g, 3a) over his last two games.

The Condors would cut the lead in half just 1:23 into the second period as Nick MacNeil snagged his second career professional goal, assisted by Jordan Knackstedt (25) and Jordan Heywood (3). Las Vegas would respond though, as forward Adam Huxley netted his eighth goal of the season, which set a new personal career-high in scoring and put the Wranglers on top 3-1. Assists on the goal came from Shawn Skelly (15), and May (12), his second of three helpers on the night.

Skelly (8) would then all but ice the game with a score of his own midway through the third period, assisted by Justin Bernhardt (5) and May (13), who now has four points (0g, 4a) in his first two games back from an injury he suffered back in January.

With their three-game home-stand wrapped up the Wranglers now head to Ontario on Wednesday, Mar. 26 to take on the Reign. They will then return back to Las Vegas for a three-game set against the Alaska Aces on Friday, Mar. 28, Saturday, Mar. 29 and Sunday, Mar. 30. Saturday's game will feature the fourth and final of the 2013-14 post-game concert series with Todd Snider taking the stage immediately after the game.
