Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (33-21-3-5) defeated the Idaho Steelheads (33-25-3-4) 4-1 Saturday night at Maverik Center before 9,127 fans; the team's second largest crowd of the season for Military Night presented by ATK.
The team's post-game jersey auction of the team's military themed camouflage jerseys raised $16,250 for the Fisher House to provide housing for wounded servicemen and their families upon returning home.
"The staff has done a great job of getting people in the barn here and the boys have done a great job of making the game exciting," said Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "The fans are really getting behind the team, the team loves the fans and we play hard each and every night and that's what the fans are looking for."
The Grizzlies took control of the game by scoring a season-high four goals in the second period. Phil Mangan (10) and Danick Paquette (18) scored 42 seconds apart at 7:10 and 7:52 of the frame to quickly break the scoreless tie and make it 2-0.
Mathieu Aubin scored shorthanded 12 seconds into an Idaho power-play to make it 3-0 and cap off three goals in four minutes and six seconds.
Danick Paquette's second goal of the night and 19th of the year made it 4-0 with 1:15 left in the second as he scored two goals for the second-straight night.
Igor Bobkov stopped 30 of 31 shots as Idaho broke up the shutout with 13:41 left in regulation. Bobkov improved to 16-6-2-2 on the year.
"When we had a breakdown Bobkov was there to bail us out and when we needed a goal we got it," said Branham. "That's all about a team right there, everybody stepping up, playing their roles and holding everyone accountable."
Vinny Scarsella with two assists and Mathieu Aubin with one goal and one assist each had multiple-point games.
The Grizzlies open a three-game road trip Wednesday in Colorado. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Utah returns home Wednesday, April 2 and Wednesday, April 9 for the next two Wild $2 Wednesdays. Fans can get $2 Hot Dogs, $2 Fries, $2 Soft Drinks and $2 Draft Beers. Student tickets are available for the games for $5 at the Maverik Center box office.
