
Stingrays End Home Stand With 3-1 Loss To Nailers

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (30-11-2-4) ended an eight-game home stand with a 3-1 loss to the Wheeling Nailers (23-18-2-1) at North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday night. Forward Matt Scherer scored the only goal for the Stingrays and goaltender Shane Connelly made 18 saves on 21 shots.
The Nailers started the scoring with an unassisted goal at 9:35 of the first period from forward Jordan Fox beating Connelly under the left arm. Fox's 13 goal of the season marked the only goal of the opening 20 minutes of play.
Stingrays' Scherer tied the game at one at 4:35 of the second period with a drive off the right-wing wall beating Nailers goalie Michael-Lee Teslak over the left shoulder. Forward Trent Campbell earned the only assist.
Nailers forward Andrew Lord reclaimed the one-goal lead with a shorthanded marker at 2:11 of the third period. Forward Aaron Clarke received an assist. The Nailers iced the game 1:01 later with lamp-lighter from defenseman Kyle Bushee at 3:12 from forward Thomas Beauregard. Teslak earned his second straight victory over the Stingrays pushing aside 26 of 27 chances. The Stingrays ended the night 0-for-8 on the power play while the Nailers went 0-for-4.
The Stingrays head out on a seven-game road trip starting Friday, January 29 against the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:30 p.m. at U.S. Bank Arena.
