Gladiators Ink Youngclaus

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Phil Youngclaus. Youngclaus has four goals and 16 assists in 36 games with the Dayton Gems of the International Hockey League this season. Youngclaus skated in 11 regular season and all five post season games with the Gladiators last season, tallying one assist in the playoffs.

The 26-year-old Methuen, Massachusetts native skated four collegiate seasons at the University of Vermont before making his pro debut with the Richmond Renegades of the Southern Professional Hockey League in 2006. Following his only season in the SPHL, Youngclaus made the move to the ECHL, where he skated 70 games with Pensacola in 2007-08, notching 14 points, before joining the Gladiators at the end of the 2008-09 season.

The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on Saturday, January 15th vs. Charlotte at 7:05 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
