
Stingrays Bounce Jackals 4-3 in the Shootout

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (26-17-1-1) toppled the Elmira Jackals (26-14-1-1) 4-3 in the shootout on Kid's Day Sunday afternoon that the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays finished the season series against the Jackals 4-1-0-0.
The Jackals capitalized on an early power play in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Mario Larocque fired a shot past the glove of Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (W, 24 saves on 27 shots) from between the faceoff circles. Forward Dustin Gazley and defenseman Craig Rivet added assists.
Former Stingray Jordan Pietrus made it a 2-0 Jackals lead at 2:16 of the second period from defensemen Jimmy Martin and Larocque. The Stingrays jumped on the board at 3:04 when forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien blasted a pass from Maxime Lacroix between the legs of Jackals keeper Timo Pielmeier (L, 26 saves on 29 shots). Forward Trent Campbell recorded the second assist. Stingrays forward Matt Scherer tied the contest on the power play at 12:04 from defenseman Johann Kroll and O'Brien.
Lacroix gave the Stingrays a 3-2 lead at 3:10 of the final frame from Campbell and defenseman Brett Flemming. Jackals winger Kyle Reeds knotted the game back up at 8:30 from Martin. After a scoreless overtime, Lacroix, forward Matt Pope and O'Brien scored in the shootout and Grubauer stopped three of four Jackals shooters. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while the Jackals went 1-for-3.
The Stingrays hit the road for a three-game road trip Wednesday, February 1 against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:00 p.m. at Wing Stadium and return to the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday, February 7 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday is 2-for-1 Ticket Night!
