Alaska Aces News Release
Alex Stalock made 38 saves on 39 shots to help the Stockton Thunder edge the Alaska Aces 2-1 in a goaltending duel from Stockton Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Aces fell to 31-9-5, on the season, and 7-5-5 on the road. The Aces will now continue their road trip with a Tuesday night game in Ontario, followed by a three-game series in Las Vegas later in the week. They return to the Sullivan Arena on February 17. The teams traded chances with a very quick pace to the opening period, and Alaska outchanced Stockton for the majority of the period. The Aces outshot Stockton 17-13, and goaltenders Adam Courchaine and Alex Stalock traded phenomenal saves until Stockton broke the scoreless tie in the final minute of the period. At 19:34, defenseman Mike Little won a race to a loose puck in the Aces zone, and flipped a puck towards the front of the net when Milan Kytnar redirected it into the net to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead at first intermission.
The goaltenders continued their strong play in the second period, but the Aces were able to tie the score late in the frame. At 15:27 Dan Kissel scored his 23rd goal of the season from the slot. The goal was set up by Zach Harrison, who extended his team-high point streak to five games, and Chad Anderson. The Aces and Thunder entered the third period tied 1-1.
Early in the third period Stockton's Jordan Fulton created a turnover at center ice, and then raced into the zone, cutting in from the right circle and tucked a puck around Adam Courchaine at 3:53 to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. The Aces peppered Stalock with 12 third period shots, but could not get past him, and the Thunder held on for the win.
Adam Courchaine (14-5-3) suffered the loss, making 34 saves on 36 shots, while Alex Stalock (4-0-0) earned the win, stopping 38 of 39 shots against. The Aces power play went 0-2, while the Thunder went 0-1. Alaska outshot Stockton 39-36 in the game.
The Aces continue their road trip with a Tuesday night game in Ontario, followed by a three-game series in Las Vegas later in the week. They return to the Sullivan Arena on February 17.
