Chicago Express News Release
Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, erased a two goal first period deficit to comeback for a 3-2 shootout victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Sunday afternoon at the Sears Centre Arena.
Cincinnati struck first at 8:26 in the first period when Cyclones C Michael Pelech performed a
SNS Photography toe drag which pulled Express G Peter Mannino out of position. Pelech then backhanded a shot over the blocker of Mannino for the 1-0 lead. Cincinnati added to their lead just over ten minutes later when RW Jonathan Hazen left the penalty box, received a pass from LW Garrett Wilson, and made a nice move through two Express defenders before passing the puck to C Mathew Sisca who buried the puck in the top corner of the net to make the score 2-0.
Chicago chipped into the lead in the second period when F Kyle Ostrow rung a shot off of the post creating a cluster of players trying to play the puck. D Darcy Campbell grabbed the loose puck out of the scrum and backhanded it past Cyclones G Brian Foster to make the score 2-1. The goal was Campbell's third of the season and his 21st point on the campaign. Chicago held a 19-18 shot advantage through two.
RW Chaz Johnson evened the score with 7:18 left to play in the final period. Johnson took a pass from Campbell, raced up the near side wall and snapped a shot past Foster, forcing the game into overtime. After the Express killed a penalty late in the third and into overtime, eventually pushing the game into a shootout. Chicago got shootout goals from F Pierre-Luc Faubert and LW Maxime Gratchev while Mannino turned aside all four Cyclones shots as the Express secured the 3-2 shootout victory.
