Stingers Use Two Big Innings To Defeat St. Cloud, 8-3

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and the Stingers led the rest of the way en route to an 8-3 victory over the St. Cloud River Bats at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn.

Gonzalez finished the game 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Mitch Delfino (California) added an RBI single two batters later to score Gonzalez as part of a three-run, four-hit fifth inning for the Stingers.

Willmar added to its lead in the eighth with four consecutive hits to plate four runs in the frame. Jarid Scarafiotti (Stephen F. Austin) started the one-out rally with a double to right-center field. Jake Stinnett (Maryland), Blake Shepherd (Viterbo) and Chris Woolley (Western Nevada College) followed with three-straight singles. All four players scored in the inning, and Shepherd and Woolley had RBIs on their base hits. Jason Leblebijian (Bradley) picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice later in the inning.

Leblebijian finished the game 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and his 18th stolen base of the season. Leblebijian leads the team with 34 RBIs and 49 runs this year. Pat Stover (Santa Clara) also had an RBI in the game on a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Ben Burns (Daytona State) improved his record to 2-1 after seven strong innings, allowing only five baserunners during his outing. Burns allowed three runs in his seven innings to lower his ERA to 4.03. Michael Shreves pitched the final two innings and struck out two batters.

The Stingers will play St. Cloud at home Tuesday night for "Salute to Agriculture Night" presented by Central is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Gates will open at 6.
