Lunkers and Honkers Split Doubleheader

(Brainerd Lakes Area) - After a tough 5-2 loss to Rochester in game one, the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers bounced back for a 6-3 victory in game two of a doubleheader Monday night at Mills Field. In game one, the Honkers struck for three runs in the Top of the 2nd, getting a big two-run single from Eric Birch. The Honkers would add a couple more runs in game one. The win went to Nick Dolsky in game one, as he went a full seven innings, giving up two runs and striking out three.

Kye Winter took the loss for the Lunkers despite going the full seven innings. He gave up five runs and struck out six. Nick Hamilton had a couple of hits for the Lunkers in game one and also scored a run.

In game two, the Lunkers offense struck first with five runs in the Bottom of the 3rd. Vince Bruno had a big two-run single to bring home Nick Hamilton and Dan Olinger. Olinger, Casey Roche and Jon Crist each had RBIs in the inning.

Joe Harvey got the start for the Lunkers and picked up the win, going four-plus innings, giving up three runs and striking out four. Chase Webb came on in the Top of the 7th to pick up his third save.

Ben Heairet takes the loss. He pitched a complete game for the Honkers, going six innings while giving up six runs and striking out eight.

The Lunkers and Honkers are back in action Tuesday night as they wrap up the three-game series from Mills Field. John McLeod will get the start for the Lunkers with Jeff McKenzie getting the start for Rochester. First pitch is set for 7:05.
