Sappelt Becomes 1st Bomber in the Bigs

(Battle Creek, MI) - 2007 Battle Creek Bomber Dave Sappelt has become the first Bomber to make it to the Major Leagues.

Sappelt, the former Coastal Carolina standout, batted leadoff and started in left field going 1for 5 with a run scored in a Reds 8-7 victory over the surging Chicago Cubs. Sappelt spent the majority of the season at the AAA Louisville Bats of the International League where he hit.305 with 15 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 27 RBI.

Sappelt also made a highlight real catch down the left field line robbing Geovany Soto of extra bases in the 4th inning.

The 24-year-old North Carolina native was selected in the ninth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft by Cincinnati, and has quickly risen through the Reds' farm system.
