Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers traveled to Brainerd to take on the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers for a doubleheader on Monday night, winning game number one by a score of 5-2 and falling by a score of 6-3 in game two. The series split moves the Honkers record to 14-18 on the season.

The Honkers would get an excellent effort from starting pitcher Nick Dolsky (So, Nebraska) in game number one. Dolsky pitched the full seven innings allowing the two runs on just six hits and striking out three batters. The win improves the Honkers lone all-star's record to 3-2 on the season.

The Honkers would fall down by one in the first inning but come back in their half of the second to score three runs, which were the eventual the deciding runs. The Honkers would only allow one more during the game to take the opener of the doubleheader.

The Honkers were not as fortunate in game two, falling by a score of 6-3. Brainerd would use a five run third inning to propel themselves to victory over the Honkers. The Honkers almost rallied back in the fifth and sixth innings, but fell short.

Ben Heairet (So, Augustana) would pitch the complete game for Rochester, allowing the six runs on eight hits, while striking out eight Lunker batters. The loss would push his record to 0-2 since reporting to Rochester late in the season.

The Honkers would get good offensive production out of the bats of Johnny Coy (RsJr, Wichita State) and Ryan Hambright (So, Oregon). The duo each batted 3-for-8 in the two games, each getting two hits in the first game. Devin Thaut (Jr, Southern Polytechnic State) would have a strong second game, going 3-for-3 with a RBI after leaving the first game early.

The two teams will be back on the field tomorrow for a regular nine inning game with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. The teams will then travel to Rochester for a three game series at Mayo Field. The series is the last time the Honkers will play at home this season, and will feature the Minnesota Twins organist Sue Nelson on Thursday night, with a fireworks extravaganza following. All three games at Mayo field are 7:05 pm starts.
