Lunkers Fall in Season Finale

(Brainerd Lakes Area) - The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers made it interesting in the Bottom of the 9th, but would fall to the St. Cloud River Bats 5-3 in the final game of the 2011 season.

Dan Olinger was the story of the night. Olinger played all nine positions for the Lunkers, including pitching a 1-2-3 Top of the 9th inning.

St. Cloud struck early against Lunker starter Kye Winter. Carlos Lopez had a two-run double in the Top of the 1st. Jeremy Banks added an RBI single later in the inning, making it 3-0.

The River Bats would add on to their lead in the Top of the 4th inning with two more runs to make it 5-0.

The Lunkers first run came in the Bottom of the 8th when Casey Roche hit a solo home run off the scoreboard in left-center field.

Brainerd Lakes Area made it interesting in the Bottom of the 9th. Shea Lukes, in his second at-bat with the Lunkers, laced a double into left-center, bringing home Jon Crist. Olinger would add a double of his own to bring home Lukes. After Roche was hit by a pitch, Matt Hillsinger lined out to end the game.

The win for St. Cloud goes to Jeff Kelly, who pitched a scoreless third inning of relief for the River Bats.

Winter takes the loss, falling to (4-5) on the season. The Lunkers finish at (15-24) for the second half of the season and (35-34) overall. This is the first year the Lunkers have finished with a winning overall record.
