Willmar Stingers News Release
ALEXANDRIA, Minn.--In a game that featured multiple lead changes, the Blue Anchors grabbed the lead that mattered with a big inning in the bottom of the eighth on the way to a 12-6 victory over the Stingers.
Willmar took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning, and after Alexandria scored twice with one run in the bottom of the first and one run in the bottom of the second, the Stingers came right back to take the 4-2 lead. Hutton Moyer homered in the first inning to give the Stingers the early advantage and Max Dutto tied the game in the third with his second big fly of the season.
But after Tyler Cohen left the game following four strong innings on the mound, Ben Gullo came on in relief and could not find the strike zone en route to eight walks in his 3-2/3 innings. Five of those walks came in the bottom of the eighth and proved to be the difference maker for the Blue Anchors. Willmar had tied the game at six going to the bottom of the eighth, but Alexandria used the walks effectively and tallied three other hits in the inning to score six runs and break the game wide open.
Jack Ross finished with three hits and three RBI in the loss.
The Stingers return to the Beehive this evening for a rematch with the Blue Anchors. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
