Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors and the Willmar Stingers split the double header on Tuesday night. The Anchors took game one by a score of 6-4, and Willmar came back and took game two by a score of 3-1.

Game one went back and forth. Alexandria jumped out to a quick 1-0 with a home run by Northwoods League Player of Night Craig Nennig, who would come up just a triple shy of the cycle in this abbreviated game. Willmar would then answer in the bottom of the first with a home run of their own off the bat of Reagan Fowler.

The Stingers would score three in the third to take a 4-1 lead. The Blue Anchors were running out of time and in the fifth they stung Willmar with four runs. A double by Nennig would score Kris Goodman to pull within two. Jordan Lee and Jeremy Hyde would both walk, then the very next batter Ricky Sanchez would tie the game at four a piece with a two RBI single. Aaron Gretz would reach on a fielder's choice to score the game winning run in the top of the fifth.

In game two the Anchors would go down early. A sac fly by Nick Rivera would score Hutton Moyer who singled earlier in the inning. The Anchors would answer in the fourth to tie the game on back to back doubles by Jordan Lee and Jeremy Hyde. The Stingers would not let the tie last long as they scored a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to take the game by a score of 3-1.

The two teams will be back at it tomorrow with a split double header. Game 1 will be played in Alexandria and 12:05pm, and game two will be played in Willmar at 7:05pm.
