Stingers Struggle against Rochester

Willmar, Minn. - The Stingers continue their struggles against the Honkers with a 4-1 loss. That is their third straight loss to the Honkers.
Masen Palmier (Missouri Baptist) gave the Stingers a chance to win in his start on the mound. He completed six innings of work in his outing. Two runs scored on Palmier but neither one of them were earned. He gave up three hits, four walks, and tallied four strikeouts.
Both pitchers cruised through the first inning of the game. In the second inning, Tyler Bosetti (Nevada) was able to score for the Stingers off an infield ground ball from Chase Stanke (Minnesota). 1-0 Stingers. Brennan McKenzie (Pamona) lead the Stingers at the plate in his debut with two hits. His first hit came with the first pitch he saw. He had a stand up double to right-center field in the second.
The Honkers went on to score four unanswered runs. Rochester scored the runs in pairs. They began their scoring in the fourth inning when two runs scored off one hit. 2-0 Honkers. Palmier was able to get the Stingers out of a bases loaded jam in that inning. Gus Cunningham (Montevallo) was first in relief for the Stingers as he pitched the next two innings. Two more runs scored for the Honkers in Cunningham's second inning of work. The scored moved to 4-1 Honkers by the end of the seventh.
The game remained scoreless for the last two innings. Kade Lancour (Ripon College) pitched a scoreless ninth for the Stingers. Willmar was held scoreless in the bottom half of the inning and fell to Rochester 4-1. Game 2 is set to take place back at Bill Taunton Stadium tomorrow. First pitch 7:05pm CT!
