July 18, 2019 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
MADISON, Wis. - The Madison Mallards will take the field once again as the Wisconsin Cheese Curds, (31-17) and are back in front of their home crowd for a three-day homestand, after returning from the All-Star break. Wisconsin will kick-off the homestand by hosting a two-game series against the Lakeshore Chinooks (21-27).
Nine players from the Cheese Curds represented Wisconsin in the All-Star game and Home Run Derby earlier this week in Waterloo, Iowa. Justice Bigbie (Western Carolina) was named the "Star of Stars" as the ASG MVP after going 2-4 with two home runs and three RBI, leading the Great Lakes Division to a 5-2 victory over the Great Plains Division.
Tonight, the Cheese Curds are making their second appearance of the summer, this time against the Lakeshore Chinooks. Overall the Chinooks are in second to last place in the Great Lakes West Division, 10 games behind the Mallards. Since the second half of the season began, the Chinooks have made their way to fourth in the standings, only one game behind the third place Mallards.
Brody Gibson (Oral Roberts) will start on the bump tonight for the Cheese Curds, making his fifth start and tenth appearance overall. This season he has pitched 28 innings, striking out 26 and picking up a save. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
This evening is the Brew Pub Pizza sublimated shirsey giveaway and Group Health Cooperative pre-game puppy yoga with Custom Canines. Gates will open at 5:35 p.m. Hear every pitch of the 2019 Mallards' season live on The Zone, 96.7 FM and 1670 AM.
