
Stephens Transferred To Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Jason Stephens has been transferred from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) to Trenton. RHP Noel Castillo has been transferred from Trenton to Staten Island (New York-Penn League).
Stephens appeared in three games (one start) for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees and had a 1-1 record with a 5.40 ERA. The Tallmadge, Ohio native spent the 2008 season with Charleston (Low-A). He appeared in 17 games (eight starts) and went 2-3 with a 3.02 ERA. Stephens was drafted by the Yankees in the 6th round of the 2003 draft out of Tallmadge High School.
Castillo was transferred to Trenton from Tampa on April 25, and has made six relief appearances with a 0-0 record and an 11.25 ERA. He went 1-0 with a 3.24 ERA in four games for Tampa. The San Pedro De Marcois, Dominican Republic native spent most of the 2008 season in Charleston. He made 25 appearances (21 starts) for the RiverDogs, and had a 7-8 record with a 3.90 ERA. He also made one start with Tampa (High-A) and was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. Castillo was signed by the Yankees as an undrafted free agent on September 16, 2004.
Trenton concludes a three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) tonight at Waterfront Park. RHP Ryan Pope (1-2, 5.47) will start for the Thunder and he will be opposed by Portland RHP Ryne Lawson (0-0, 3.00). Game time is set for 7:05 pm. On Thursday, the Thunder will head to Binghamton to start a five-game series against the Binghamton Mets (Double-A Affiliate of the New York Mets). Trenton will return to Waterfront Park on Tuesday night to start a three-game series against the Akron Aeros (Double-A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians).
