Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton Starting Pitcher Ryan Pope hurled seven shutout innings to lead the Thunder past Portland 5-0 on Wednesday night from Waterfront Park. The last time the Thunder allowed one hit in a game was July 31st, 2008 vs. Altoona. The Thunder won that game 1-0 in 10 innings.
Trenton took a 3-0 lead in the first inning off of Portland Starting Pitcher Ryne Lawson (0-1). Thunder Shortstop Eudardo Nunez led off the frame with a single and advanced to third base on a double by Shortstop Reegie Corona. Left fielder Colin Curtis followed with an RBI single to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. First baseman Jorge Vazquez grounded into a double play to drive home the second run of the inning. Later in the inning, Second baseman Justin Snyder walked with the bases loaded to drive home a run to increase the lead to 3-0. Trenton batted around in the three-run first inning.
In the seventh inning, Trenton (15-15) added two runs to make it 5-0. Vazquez connected on a two-run double to bring home both runs. He increased his team-high RBI lead to 21. Thunder Outfielder James Cooper extended his on-base streak to 17 games. Thunder Shortstop Eduardo Nunez had two singles and scored two runs in the win. Thunder Infielder Justin Snyder went 1 x 1 with three walks and an RBI.
