Petersen Slaps Three Hits, B-Mets Fall in Ninth, 5-4

Leftfielder Josh Petersen recorded his first three-hit day of the season, including an RBI single in the eighth inning, but the B-Mets fell 5-4 Brian Dopirak's RBI walk-off double scored Brad Emaus from second in the bottom of the ninth to seal the game and the series for the Fisher Cats, who took two of three from Binghamton.

The game was tied at four heading into the home half of the ninth inning. Julio De La Cruz who had thrown two perfect innings of relief came out for the ninth inning and proceeded to walk Brad Emaus to start things. The fourth pitcher of the night, Stephen Clyne, then came on for the B-Mets and walked Brian Jeroloman to put two on with no one out. Dopirak, on a two-strike pitch, reached out to pull a pitch off the plate and succeeded, smashing it into the gap in left-center to score Emaus and take the win.

Down 4-2 in the eighth, Binghamton (14-17) rallied to tie against the Fisher Cats' bullpen. Righty Randy Boone, who was skipped over in the rotation due to Ricky Romero's Major League rehab start, came on to pitch the inning. He proceeded to walk the leadoff man Emmanuel Garcia and allow a two-strike it to Jonathan Malo. With runners at the corners, he struck out Josh Thole, but then gave up a singled to Petersen to get the B-Mets within a run. Bubbie Buzachero relieved him and promptly struck out Lucas Duda. However, with two outs, Shawn Bowman lined a broken-bat single to left to score Malo and tie the game.

It was a bullpen day at the park as righty Nick Abel threw 3.1 innings giving up three runs in the spot start. Romero, on rehab assignment from Toronto went 5.1 innings, walking 5 and giving up 2 runs to get a no-decision for New Hampshire (19-14).

Buzachero earned the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief after blowing the save. It was Buzachero's first win. De La Cruz was hung with his first loss of the year.

After the difficult roadtrip, the B-Mets begin a five-game homestand Thursday with the Trenton Thunder. Binghamton will throw RHP Dylan Owen (0-3, 5.34) and he will be opposed by Trenton LHP Wilkin De La Rosa (1-0, 0.00). First pitch is slated for 6:35 at NYSEG Stadium. The radio broadcast begins at 6:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
