June 20, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
In its first half finale an eighth inning rally the Keys have mustered many times in a pennant winning half came to be for the opposition as Myrtle Beach used four consecutive hits to plate three runs, breaking a tie game open as the Keys fell 5-2.
The back breaking hit came off of the bat of Pelicans 1B Mike Jones who doubled home two runs on a line drive to the right-center field alleyway to give Myrtle beach the lead.
Frederick got a strong start from RHP Ryan O'Shea who allowed two runs in five innings in the no decision.
Down 1-0 in the fourth inning the Keys had runners at second and third base with two down without registering a hit. 2B Miguel Abreu then came through with a groundball single to centerfield scoring both runners to put Frederick atop.
Myrtle Beach would quickly rally though as C Matt Kennelly hit his second home run of the year in the fourth on a line drive shot over the left field wall to even the game at 2-2.
The Keys finish the first half with the Carolina League's Northern Division Pennant in tow. Frederick's 41-29 record is second best in the team's history only bested by the 1997 club that won 45 first half games.
Frederick now takes a three-day break for the Carolina-California League All-Star game to be played in Myrtle Beach, SC on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. The Keys are back to action on Thursday, June 24th for Peanut Free Night presented by The Frederick Allergy and Asthma Center.
