Unlucky P-Nats Drop First-Half Finale, 3-0

June 20, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release

In the spirit of the World Cup, the Potomac Nationals were unlucky in a 3-0 loss to Lynchburg Sunday.

Potomac starter Trevor Holder and Hillcats hurler Lance Janke held a pitchers' dual through five and a third, but a pair of P-Nats errors in the sixth led to three unearned runs.

Cody Puckett led off the sixth with a grounder to short, but Will Ortiz couldn't find the handle. Holder then struck out his fourth batter of the afternoon before Josh Fellhauer reached via catcher's interference. Carlos Mendez singled to load the bases before Neftali Soto doubled home Puckett and Fellhauer.

Holder issued his first walk of the game before being replaced by Justin Phillabaum. Phillabaum retired the side, but not before Kevyn Feiner sent Mendez home on a sacrifice fly to center.

Holder held the Hillcats to five hits, a walk and three unearned runs while fanning four in his first home start with the P-Nats. He was also charged with the hard-luck loss.

Janke, who actually had a no-no going through four innings, earned his third win of the year, holding Potomac scoreless on three hits through six innings. Donnie Joseph picked up his fourth save in five tries, striking out two in the bottom of the ninth.

Potomac completes the first half with a 31-39 record. Following the All-Star break, the P-Nats kick off the second half at home with a four-game series with Myrtle Beach beginning Thursday at 7:03 p.m.
