THE HILLCATS: Potomac pounded Lynchburg 9-2 last night and they have now taken the first two games of this three-game set...The Hillcats have dropped five out of their last six games...Tonight is the last game of a three-game set that is the final series of the first half of the season...
VS. POTOMAC: The Hillcats are 5-7 against the Nationals thus far this season with both teams taking a series on their home field and last weekend they split a four-game series...Lynchburg is 159-152 against Potomac all-time and are 72-78 at the Pfitz...Last season the Cats won the season series with the P-Nats 11-9...
CAN I GET A T.O.? Today is the final game of the first half of the season for the Hillcats...They ended the first half of the season with 53 games in 55 days and in the half they played 70 contests in 74 days...In comparison the Reds played two less games over that same stretch...Lynchburg has lost five of their last six games and dropped to a season worst 13 games under .500 with their 28-41 mark...Last season the Cats went 28-42 in the second half before they won six out of eight in the post-season to win the 2009 Carolina League Championship...
MONEY'S WORTH: Friday night Hillcats Manager Pat Kelly was ejected or the first time this season in the bottom of the eighth inning...1B Bill Rhinehart hit a ball to right-center field that was originally ruled that it stayed in the ballpark for an RBI double...After the two-man umpire crew met to discuss the call though, they reversed the call and ruled it a home run to tie the game at four...Kelly sprinted out of the dugout to argue the call and shorty after was tossed from the contest by home plate umpire Jacob Danielsen...The Cats skipper threw his batting helmet and was extremely animated in displaying his displeasure with the call...
WELCOME TO THE PARTY: INF Carlos Mendez went 2-for-4 with a double and drove-in both of the Hillcats runs last night...In the series he is now 4-for-9 (.444)...This season against Potomac the infielder is batting .404 (21-for-52) with six doubles, seven RBI and six runs scored...Mendez has seven runs driven in in 12 games against the P-Nats and 11 RBI in 49 games against the rest of the league...
TAKE A MULLIGAN: RHP Mark Serrano allowed a career-high eight runs (seven earned) in four plus innings of action last night in taking his fifth straight loss...He has given the Hillcats seven quality starts in 12 outings, but he has only won two of those outings...Prior to last night Serrano had not given up more than three earned runs in a game this season and had not given up more than four earned runs in a game in his career...Last night was also the first time he has given up two homers in a game this season...
INTO THE FRAY: UTIL Brodie Greene was promoted to Lynchburg from Rookie Billings on Friday and made his professional debut that night...He batted second and started at short stop and went 1-for-5 with his first career hit as a pro...Just ten days earlier he was playing his final collegiate game for Texas A&M in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional...The Aggies lost to Miami in the regional, a team that was led by C Yasmani Grandal, who was the Reds first round selection (12th overall) in this year's draft...Greene was the fourth round selection of the Reds in the same draft and batted .395 with 14 homers, 55 RBI and 23 steals in 65 games this season with the Aggies...Greene was a second-team All-Big 12 selection and in his college days he played every defensive position except catcher and first base...
IN THE MARKET: OF Josh Fellhauer went 1-for-4 last night and in the series he is 3-for-9 with a double and a run scored...He batted in the seventh spot in the line-up last night and in the sixth spot in the order on Friday night, these two games marked the first time this season he has hit anywhere in the line-up other than first or second...Fellhauer was 1-for-15 (.067) in his previous four games, was 4-for-27 (.148) in his last nine contests and was batting .167 (9-for-54) in the month of June before his multi-hit game on Friday night, which was his first since June 8th...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: RHP Trevor Holder was a third round selection by the Nationals in the 2009 draft out of the University of Georgia...In four years with the Bulldogs he went a combined 22-15 with a 4.51 ERA in 73 games (50 starts)...Last year he made his professional debut last year with Short Season Low-A Vermont and had no decisions in two starts with a 5.06 ERA...He next made three starts with full season Low-A Hagerstown and went 2-0 with a 3.55 ERA with the Suns...He finished the season with Potomac and posted a 2-3 mark with a 9.26 ERA in six starts...This season he returned to Hagerstown and had a 4-3 mark with a 3.15 ERA in 12 starts before earning a promotion back to the P-Nats...On Tuesday he made his first start of the season with the Nationals and he gave up three runs in five innings in a no-decision at Myrtle Beach...Holder made his last start of the season last year against Lynchburg, his only appearance against the Hillcats...In that outing he gave up eight runs (six earned) in four and 1/3 innings and took the loss at Pfitzner Stadium...
