(Boise, ID) - Colorado jumped out to a 3-2 lead early in the second period, but the Idaho Steelheads scored four straight goals to earn the 6-3 victory on Wednesday night at CenturyLink Arena in Boise.
Idaho grabbed an early lead in the contest, as defenseman Corbin Baldwin fired a shot from the left point just 29 seconds into the first period, beating Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders glove-side high to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead.
Colorado would find an answer 3:13 later when defenseman Teigan Zahn wired home a shot from the blue line to knot the score at 1-1.
Idaho would find themselves on their third powerplay of the period at the 16:39 mark when forward Tommy Fallon deflected a shot from the point past Saunders and giving the Steelheads a 2-1 advantage after 20 minutes of play.
Colorado came out of the dressing room in the second period and buried two goals in a span of 17 seconds to give them their first lead of the contest. The scoring started as defenseman Collin Bowman fired a shot from the right circle on the powerplay with forward Darryl Bootland tipping it into the net, tying the game at 2-2 just 2:11 into the second.
Eagles defenseman Giffen Nyren used a rush down the ice to split a pair of defenders and sent a wrister top-shelf past Steelheads goaltender Jack Campbell to give Colorado a 3-2 advantage 2:28 into the second frame.
Idaho would storm back, as forward Emil Molin took a drop pass on the rush and beat Saunders from between the circles to deadlock the game at 3-3 with 13:07 left in the period. Just 58 seconds later, fellow forward Kyle Jean came streaking down the left wing and lit the lamp with a wrister from the wall, reclaiming the lead for the Steelheads at 4-3.
Idaho forward Andrew Carroll potted his first goal of the night when he deflected a shot from the top of the left circle and into the back of the net at the 15:25 mark, giving the Steelheads a 5-3 lead after two periods of play.
Colorado dominated the shots on goal in the third period 13-4, but surrendered the only goal of the final frame when Kyle Jean jammed home a rebound out of mid-air at the 7:14 mark of the third. The Steelheads would hang tough defensively and hold on for the 6-3 win.
The same two teams will meet again on Friday in Boise, with the opening face-off set for 7:10pm MST.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
