Royals Sign Forward Andrew Ammon
December 30, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL, today announced that the team has signed forward Andrew Ammon to an ECHL Standard Players Contract.
Ammon (6'0/191) (25), a second year pro who hails from Anchorage, Alaska, has not yet played this season, as he is returning to action after recovery from an injury. Last year, he registered eleven points (7g-4a) and sixteen penalty minutes in thirty-eight games with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. In his rookie season, Ammon also earned a four game call-up to the Providence Bruins of the AHL (1g-0a), scoring the P-Bruins second goal in a 3-2 win over the Albany Devils precisely one year ago-on December 30, 2014. In his lone appearance against Reading last season, Ammon registered nine shots on goal for the Stingrays in a 2-1 win for Reading at North Charleston Coliseum on January 24, 2015. Ammon appeared in one playoff game for the Stingrays-a 4-1 win for South Carolina over the Allen Americans in Game Six of the Kelly Cup Finals, which was ultimately won in seven games by Allen.
Prior to turning pro, Ammon played four years at Princeton University, where he registered 61 points (33g-28a) and 171 penalty minutes in 107 total collegiate games. In his senior season, Ammon, who served as an alternate captain for the Tigers, led the team with eleven goals and was tied for the team lead with twenty-one points. That year, Ammon, who was chosen as the ECAC player and/or rookie of the week four times during his collegiate career, earned a selection to the All-Ivy League First Team.
Reading closes out the team's most recent four game road trip as well as Calendar Year 2015 by traveling to Glens Falls, New York, for the first time in team history, where the Royals will face Adirondack Thunder tomorrow (Thursday, December 31 @ 5:30 pm). The game night broadcast for Thursday's matchup can be heard live on CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 in Reading, Pennsylvania, starting with the pre-game warm-up show presented by Highmark Blue Shield at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. As with all Royals' road games this season, Thursday's game will be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel and Apple Vacations. Streaming audio is available free of charge on the Royals' website (follow the 'headset' icon); and streaming video is available on a pay-per-view basis through ECHL.TV.
