Toledo Comes up Just Short in 2-1 Loss to Elmira

(Toledo, OH) Shane Berschbach scored the lone goal as the Walleye dropped a 2-1 decision in front of a standing room only crowd of 8,200 Wednesday at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 17-8-1-3 and 6-3-0-1 at home.

The two teams traded great chances in the opening period but both goaltenders came up with great saves. Jake Paterson had 13 saves in the first and CJ Motte with 11 saves for Elmira. The Jackals started the scoring when Colin Jacobs finished off a two on one at 10:58 of the second period.

Toledo tied the game as A.J. Jenks shoveled a shot off of the goaltenders stick which went right to Shane Berschbach for his 6th goal of the year. The power play goal came at 14:21 of the second period. Elmira took the lead for good on the second goal of the game from Jacobs at 11:18 of the third period. Toledo out shot Elmira 24-17 over the last two periods and 35-30 for the contest.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson posted 28 saves on 30 Elmira shots and has a record of 5-5-1-1 on the season. Toledo's power play has scored a goal in a season high five straight games. Tonight's sellout was the fifth of the season for the Walleye in ten home contests. The loss snapped the Walleye's five game winning streak. Winterfest Doubleheader: Prior to the Walleye game, the Bowling Green Falcons took on the Western Michigan Broncos. Lukas Hafner, a native of Toledo, Ohio stopped all 35 from the Falcons and posted a 1-0 win for the Western Michigan. Bowling Green outshot the Broncos 16-1 in the third period.
