Idaho Steelheads News Release

Lafayette, LA - The Idaho Steelheads wrapped up its two-game set in Louisiana with another road victory, this one a 6-0 shutout over the IceGators at the Cajundome. Rookie netminder Frank Doyle earned his fourth shutout on the season and Warren Peters notched his first professional hat trick as the Steelheads continued its push for a West Division playoff spot. Idaho's captain Dan Vandermeer also tallied three points in the game with a goal and two assists.

Idaho is now 4-0-2 in its eight-game road trip, collecting 10 of a possible 12 points. The team is 13-1-3 in its last 17 games played, and moved to just one point behind the Fresno Falcons for a playoff spot.

Idaho got on the board with a tally from Warren Peters. Frank Lukes fed Peters on a two-on-one and Peters found the back of an open net at 8:18 of the first. Peters wristed his second of the game, 17th of the season, as he skated in all alone on a turnover in the IceGators' end at 13:30. Idaho had outshot Louisiana 14-5 after the first 20-minutes of the play.

In the second, Steelheads' leading scorer Bobby Russell gave his team a three-goal lead. His 23rd of the year came on a backhand at 2:35 of the middle frame.

The Steelheads blew the game open in the third with three more unanswered goals. Dan Vandermeer skated the puck in on Louisiana's goalie Nathan Marsters who stopped his shot, but Peters was quick to gather the rebound and completed his hat trick as the puck rolled between Marsters' glove and body. At 6:41, Vandermeer blasted a shot that beat Marsters short side, and then Matt Elich notched Idaho's final tally with a one-timer on the power play at 13:11 from a Tim Verbeek feed.

The Steelheads will spend tomorrow traveling to Beaumont, Texas to finish up the road trip with two games against the Wildcatters on Saturday and Sunday.
