
Rivermen Sign Rookie Stauffacher & Defenseman Byrne Reassigned from Worcester

Peoria, Ill. (March 17, 2005) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that rookie forward and University of Minnesota-Duluth product Luke Stauffacher has been signed and added to the roster. Christie also announced that defenseman Trevor Byrne has been reassigned from the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Worcester IceCats; back-up goaltender Ryan Person has been activated from the 7-day injured reserve and waived; and defenseman Ed Hill and left wing Igor Valeev have been placed on the 7-day injured reserve.
Stauffacher â a 5-foot-7, 175-pound native of Madison, Wis. â recently finished his Senior season at NCAA Division I University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD). In 154 career games at UMD, the 24-year-old collected 74 points (36g, 38a), posting a career bests as a Junior in goals (17), assists (18) and points (35). Prior to his collegiate career at UMD, the brother of former Rivermen Chad Stauffacher enjoyed a four-year career (1997-2001) with the Green Bay Gamblers of the "Junior A" United States Hockey League (USHL), serving as the Gamblers' Team Captain and leading the Gamblers in assists (33) and points (46) during his final season (2000-2001).
Byrne â a 6-foot-3, 218-pound native of Weymouth, Mass. â has collected 12 points (4g, 8a) and a +16 plus/minus in 19 games with the Rivermen over two reassignments. The 24-year-old backliner has seven points (1g, 6a) in 37 games over three stints with Worcester this season; most recently, he was +2 over four games. The fifth round selection (143rd overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft competed in six games for the Rivermen last season over two reassignments without a point.
The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL â The Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Rivermen host the rival Johnstown Chiefs on Tuesday, March 22 and Wednesday, March 23. Game time both nights is 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. On Friday, March 25, the Rivermen host the Wheeling Nailers. Game time is 7:30 p.m. All fans will receive a subscription to the Sporting News. On Saturday, March 26, Peoria and Wheeling battle again. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Duffle Bag, courtesy of OSF â St. Francis Medical Center and the Children's Hospital of Illinois.
