Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Three power play goals led Pensacola to a 5-1 win in the final game of a three-game series Sunday night against the Idaho Steelheads. The first-place American Conference, South Division Ice Pilots disappointed the 3,731 fans in attendance by taking two of three games over the weekend. Idaho has not won two consecutive games since beating Las Vegas back-to-back December 10th and 11th.

Pensacola had the first power play opportunity of the game mid-way through the first period and scored. Scott May shot the puck behind Zulianello, and the puck slid across the crease on an angle, just over the line, hitting the padding behind the post and popping back out. Then, again on the power play, Tyler Beechey passed to Dwayne Hay from the left circle, and Hay one-timed it past Zulianello, glove side. Despite outshooting the Ice Pilots 11-8, the first period ended with Idaho down 2-0.

Pensacola took a penalty off the second period opening face off and it cost them. Darrell Hay, down on one knee, slapped home a one-timer at 1:07. A minute later, Pensacola had another penalty called, but this time killed it off. Ice Pilots' Jason Beckett tallied a power play goal at 11:46 and another quick one, this time even-strength, :35 later from Cory Stillman. With Pensacola's fourth tally, Idaho replaced Zulianello with Frank Doyle.

In the third period, Hay wrapped around the net with the puck and beat Doyle notching his second of the night at 3:18. The fifth Pensacola goal ended the scoring.

Next, Idaho hosts the ECHL's overall points leader, Bakersfield Condors for three games beginning Wednesday night. The Steelheads will wear special jerseys, sponsored by Pepsi, that will be auctioned off for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
