Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads beat the Pensacola Ice Pilots in the second game of a three-game series Saturday night at the Bank of America Centre. The 4,832 fans in attendance watched Idaho go down a goal early in the first period, eventually knot the game, then go on to win, ending the Ice Pilots four-game winning streak.

The Ice Pilots put its lone point on the board on a soft goal that slipped by Idaho's netminder Frank Doyle. Scott May, just sent down from Pensacola's American League Affiliate St. John's Maple Leafs, tallied at 3:38 in his first-ever ECHL appearance. The physical first period ended with 34 accumulated penalty minutes and with Idaho on the power play.

Idaho finally solved Pensacola's goalie Frederic Cloutier in the second period, on the power play, when Marty Flichel passed to Scott Burt who was skating towards Pensacola's goal line. Burt backhanded a pass from the crease to Bobby Russell who beat the goalie at 8:53. Matt Elich gave Idaho the lead at the 19-minute mark after beating a Pensacola defender and deking out Cloutier with a backhander.

With 46-seconds to go in the game, the Ice Pilots pulled Cloutier to add the extra attacker, but to no avail. Pensacola outshot Idaho 27-21.

The third and final game of the series will be played Sunday night, 7:10 p.m. at the Bank of America Centre.
