Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, AK – Jamie Hodson ran his record to 5-0 in shootouts as Fresno again pulled out a 2-1 victory over Alaska in front of 4,679 Saturday at Sullivan Arena.

Fresno's only goal in regulation was a gift, as an off-target shot by Derek Krestanovich caromed of the left skate of Alaska defenseman Louis Mass and past goaltender Peter Aubry just 2:19 into the game. Similar to Friday night's affair, the Aces generally enjoyed the better of the scoring chances and finished regulation with a 28-16 edge in shots on goal, but the Falcons maintained their 1-0 lead deep into the third period.

Immediately after Fresno wasted its fifth power play opportunity and a chance for a two-goal cushion, Mike Scott beat Sam Ftorek to a loose puck along the left boards and flipped a centering pass to Mike Jones, the Alaska defenseman who had been in the penalty box. Jones executed a perfect deflection past a beaten Hodson to tie the game 1-1 with 7:46 left in regulation.

The teams battled into overtime and eventually a shootout, where Hodson came into the game ranked among the league's top five goalies in shootout save percentage. After neither club scored in the first three rounds, Fresno captain Dan Tessier finally solved Aubry in the fourth, but Scott quickly answered by tucking one over Hodson. In the fifth and final round, David Brisson beat Aubry with a snap shot while Charles Linglet was stoned by Fresno's goaltender, who stopped 59 of 61 shots in the series, keeping the Falcons unbeaten in eight games (7-0-1).

Alaska and Fresno now have identical records (19-13-4) and share third place in the West Division with San Diego (19-11-4), who beat Louisiana 4-3 Saturday. The Aces will take Sunday and Monday off before returning to practice Tuesday in preparation for next weekend's three-game series at last-place Victoria, who is winless in 10 games.

The Friday and Saturday games are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. AST while Sunday's matinee will take place at Noon AST. All three games will be broadcast live on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with coverage beginning 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
