Falcons Prevail in Shootout

Fresno Falcons News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Goaltender Jamie Hodson made 28 saves as the Fresno Falcons remained unbeaten in 2005 with a record of 7-0-1 by defeating the Alaska Aces 2-1 in a shootout at Sullivan Arena.

The Falcons caught a break to take an early 1-0 lead 2:19 into the game. Derek Krestanovich's shot from the top of the left circle glanced off the skates of two different Aces players before completely wrong-footing Alaska goaltender Peter Aubry, and Fresno carried the 1-0 edge into intermission.

The Falcons' 1-0 lead held up through the second period and on into the third. Just after failing on their fifth and final power play chance of the evening, though, Fresno relinquished the advantage. Mike Jones snuck behind the Fresno defense as he stepped out the penalty box and took a feed from Mike Scott, which he re-directed past Hodson for the game-tying goal 12:14 into the final period.

The game remained tied at one through the five-minute overtime period, and the teams headed to the shootout. Both Dan Tessier and David Brisson beat Aubry in the shootout, and Hodson stopped four of five Aces to deliver the victory and the two points. Hodson is now a league-best 5-0 in shootouts this season.

After last night's 2-1 regulation win in the first game of the two-game set in Alaska, the Falcons took four points on the weekend and moved into a third place tie with both the Aces and the San Diego Gulls with a mark of 19-13-4 on the season.

Having completed a four-game road trip, the Falcons now return home to Save Mart Center for a tilt against the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at the Save Mart Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
