Lafayette, LA â The IceGators finished up a grueling seven games in nine nights stretch by playing 4 games in 5 nights in three different time zones. During the week Louisiana went 2-2, snapping a five game losing streak, a ten game winless streak on the road and winning back to back games for this first time since December 7.
Last Week
Tuesday, The Louisiana IceGators losing streak stretched to 5 games as Adam Smyth scored on a rebound with under 9 minutes left in the 3rd period to give the Gwinnett Gladiators a 5-3 victory over the IceGators Tuesday night in Gwinnett. The Gators getting goals from Mark Rooneem, Jade Galbraith and Chris Thompson.
Thursday, For the first time in 2005, the Louisiana IceGators visited victory lane, as the team snapped a 5 game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Mississippi Sea Wolves. For the Gators it was the first win on the road since December 7, 2004, snapping a 10 game winless streak away from the Cajundome. Chris Thompson and Jade Galbraith scored 2nd period goals, 37 second apart to break a 2-2 ties and propel Louisiana to the win.
Friday, The Louisiana IceGators completed a home and home sweep of the Mississippi Sea Wolves as Mark Rooneem scored twice and the power play went 3 for 3 in a 5-2 win on NASCAR night at the Cajundome. Louisiana getting two goals from Mark Rooneem, lamp lighters from Randy Dagenais, Chris Thompson and an empty netter from Wes Mason. Nathan Marsters stopped 33 of 35 shots for his 2nd win a row.
Saturday, The longest single day road trip in IceGators history ended in disappointment as San Diego scored two unusual 3rd period goals to defeat Louisiana 4-3, Saturday night in the San Diego Sports Arena. Wes Mason, Dan Sullivan, and David Bararuk scored for the Gators and the Gulls scored on two 3rd period "bank shots" to gain a come from behind victory.
The Nominees are: The IceGators nominees for ECHL of the weekly awards are Chris Thompson and Goaltender Nathan Marsters.
The Week Ahead
The IceGators will continue their cross country tour of America with two games on the East Coast. After returning home from California on Monday, the team will practice at the Hockeyplex in Carencro on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10AM. The Gators will then bus to Florence, South Carolina for a Friday night matchup against the Pee Dee Pride. The Pride defeated the IceGators 4-0, on December 11. Nick Boucher stopping all 25 shots during the only previous contest between the two clubs. Saturday night the Gators will visit the South Carolina Sting Rays at 6:35pm. It is the first meeting of the two clubs this year.

Power Play Provides Punch:The Louisiana IceGators have scored at least one power play goal in their last seven games. During that time Louisiana has scored 9 times with the man advantage.
Lighting the Lamp: Both Wes Mason and Chris Thompson have scored goals in their last three games. It is the first time this season that an IceGators player has lit the lamp in three straight. With 38 points, Mason is tied for 4th in the ECHL in scoring.
Dagenais Leads the Way: Defenseman Randy Dagenais is now the ECHL's leading scorer among defensemen. Dagenais has 8 goals and 21 assists for 29 points.
"The Hinton Connection": Since the trade for Jade Galbraith, Louisiana has seen big time chemistry from Galbraith and his hometown buddy Mark Rooneem. Both hail from Hinton, Alberta. In the last 7 games Galbraith has 8 points (3-5-8) while Rooneem has 4 goals in his last five games.
Serious Ice Time: Rookie Nathan Marsters is now 2nd in the ECHL in minutes played with 1655. Marsters has played in 24 of the last 25 IceGators contests.
Project MAMA
For the entire season the Gators are encouraging fans to participate in the Project MAMA. A list of supplies needed by our local troops serving overseas is listed at http://www.icegators.com/news/?cat=1&id=627 and in the lobby of the Cajundome for during every IceGators home game.. The team will have drop off points at the Cajundome for every home game and the effort will culminate our next Armed Forces Nights on March 20, 2005. On this night, children of our deployed troops will have a special day of IceGators hockey complete with a tour of the locker room and a picture with their favorite player. That picture along with supplies will be sent to loved ones overseas.
