Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings were unable to beat Long Beach Ice Dogs goalie Olivier Michaud more than once and was not enough on Saturday for the win.

Salmon Kings Head Coach started newcomer Kelly Shields again and he allowed four passed him in his second game as a starter. Victoria goalie Jason Stone started over twenty straight previous, and has been long due for a rest.

A quick goal at 1:16 of the first put the Salmon Kings behind early. Kevin Truelson and Paul Cardarelli set up Marco Rosa's eleventh and the Salmon Kings found themselves in a similar position coming from behind.

The Ice Dogs added another before the end of the period. Dan Watson scored his second goal of the season from Nathan Martz and Chris Kenady, who continued to hurt the Salmon Kings notching assists on the play.

Over half way into the second Mike Josephson scored his first power-play goal of the season and the Salmon Kings were within one starting the third.

That was all the offense they could muster on Saturday though. Meanwhile the Ice Dogs Chris Kenady scored and Dan Watson netted his second of the game in the final frame and the Ice Dogs beat the Salmon Kings 4-1.

The Salmon Kings and the Ice Dogs do it all over again on Sunday in Long Beach. Victoria returns home to face the Ice Dogs on Tuesday January 18, 2005, game time is 7:00 p.m. PST at Bear Mountain Arena.
