Brampton Steelheads News Release

Owen Sound, ON - Having lost their last five straight, the Mississauga Steelheads looked to kick off 2016 on the right foot. Although they were short-staffed and without their leading scorers, the Steelheads came out on top in a 3-1 victory over the Attack.

Jason Smith, Daniel Muzito-Bagenda, and Nicolas Hague all scored for Mississauga, while Kevin Hancock had the lone goal for the Attack.

A scoreless first period can be credited to the goaltending as Jack Flinn stopped all the shots he faced from his former team, while Daniel Dekoning turned aside all nine shots he faced in the first.

All of the scoring came in the middle frame as goals came fast and often. Jason Smith opening the scoring at 3:38, firing a wrist shot from the slot that beat Dekoning five-hole. Daniel Desousa and Thomas Lattavo drew the assists on Smith's fourth of the season. The Attack were quick to respond as Josh Sterk fed Kevin Hancock who fired a shot past Flinn just 1:11 after Mississauga's goal. Daniel Muzito-Bagenda regained the Steelheads lead, powering through the Attack defence and netting a beautiful backhand past Dekoning. Nicolas Hague put the Trout up by two at 10:46 of the second moments after an Attack penalty had expired. Hague's third of the season would be the last of the afternoon as both teams were unable to generate anything in the final frame.

The Steelheads return home Monday, January 3 to host the Ottawa 67s for Michael McLeod bobble head day at 2:00 p.m.
