August 31, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brampton Steelheads News Release
The Mississauga Steelheads kicked off the 2018 preseason Friday as they hosted the Oshawa Generals at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. With lots of fresh faces in the lineup, a number of Steelheads' rookies looked to impress in their first game in the blue and white.
The opening frame featured a lot of back and forth action as both teams worked to find their stride and notch the opening goal. The Steelheads' saw an early power play opportunity as Oshawa's Danil Antropov got called for interference. Though they had some good chances, the Steelheads were unable to capitalize on the man-advantage as the game returned to even strength. Late in the frame the Gens opened the scoring as former Steelheads' forward Brendan Harrogate set up Eric Henderson for his first of the preseason. The Steelheads trailed the Gens by one at the end of the first, but outshot the visitors 9-5.
Oshawa added to their lead early in the second with a goal from Kyle MacLean. Antropov and Tyler Tullio assisted on the goal. Later in the frame, Mitchell Hewitson extended Oshawa's lead 3-0.
Just past the halfway mark of the final frame, Oshawa's Sean Allen would sit for two on a holding call, giving the Steelheads an opportunity on the man-advantage. Defenceman Ryan Barbosa found the back of the net, beating Kyle Keyser to get the Steelheads on the board and cut the deficit to 3-1. The Gens were quick to respond, restoring their three-goal lead minutes later as Allan McShane notched a power play goal to seal a 4-1 win for the visiting Generals.
The Steelheads are back in action on Monday as the team heads to Guelph to take on the Storm for a 2:00 PM start at the Sleeman Centre.
