Bakersfield Condors News Release
Boise, Idaho â Idaho scored once in each period and Blair Allison made 21 saves as the Steelheads handed the Bakersfield Condors a 3-1 loss in front of 5,383 fans at the Bank of America Centre in Boise on Saturday night. The Steelheads swept the two-game set in Idaho this weekend.
The Steelheads took the lead in the first period, on a goal by Derek Paget at 9:33. Paget was alone in the slot, moved in on Condors netminder Beau Fritz, and slipped his fifth goal of the season past the rookie for the advantage. The hitting picked up after that, and penalties began yielding power play chances during the rest of the period. It was on Idaho's second power play that they appeared to take a 2-0 lead, only to have Cory Morgan's goal waved off by referee Mike Pearce, who ruled he had kicked the puck in.
Bakersfield tied the game up at 1-1 during the second period, on a goal by David Bell. Bell undressed the Idaho defenseman, waltzed into the zone and put the shot through Steelheads goalie Blair Allison. The goal was his second of the season, and first since November 8th. Idaho regained the lead later in the middle frame though, as Dampy Brar scored his 12th goal of the season at 15:39. Brar skated with the puck from behind the Condors net and made almost a complete circle through the middle of the ice, and fired it past Fritz, who had been run over by his own defenseman on the play. Idaho took the 2-1 lead into the third period.
The third period remained tight checking, with Idaho getting one of the few good chances. Fritz stopped a two-on-one midway through the frame to keep it 2-1, but the Condors could not get the equalizer. Bakersfield put nine shots on goal in the final frame and 22 in the contest. Adam Copeland tallied his second goal in as many nights in the final seconds, chipping the puck into the empty net for the 3-1 final score. The loss was the first of the season for Fritz, who stopped 27 shots and dropped to 3-1 on the year.
The Condors return home on Sunday to host the Fresno Falcons at 5:00pm at Centennial Garden. That game is Poster Giveaway Night, sponsored by the Spanish Radio Group and the Water Association of Kern County.
