Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads continued their dominance at home with the second win in as many nights over the Bakersfield Condors at the Bank of America Centre. Both teams played with playoff intensity before the sold out crowd of 5,383.

The teams' penalty-killing units excelled as both Bakersfield and Idaho went 0-3 with the man advantage. Idaho outshot Bakersfield 30-22. Blair Allison improved his record to 14-3-3, while Beau Fritz lost his first decision of the year and is now 3-1-0.

The Condors had the first power play opportunity at 6:31 of the first period, but Idaho's goaltender Blair Allison came up with a couple of big saves and stopped a flurry of shots. It was the Steelheads who came up with the first goal when Rory McDade got a pass over to Derek Paget who waited it out and knocked one past an outstretched Beau Fritz at 9:33. Then, the Steelheads thought they scored again with a one-man advantage when Dampy Brar got the puck through heavy traffic in Bakersfield's end over to Cory Morgan who tipped it in the corner. The goal was disallowed as it was determined by the officials to have been kicked in.

At 4:07 of the second period David Bell scored a beauty when he put the moves on Jonathan Shockey and blasted on past Allison. Quinn Fair and Jon Sorg recorded assists on the tally. It remained tied at one until Dampy Brar gave the crowd something to cheer about. Brar had the puck behind the net, skated it back and forth looking for someone to pass it to. However, bodies were falling in front of the net so Brar brought it out himself almost circling the net and popped it over everyone, including Fritz. The second period ended with Idaho up by one.

The only goal of the third period came with 13 seconds left. Bakersfield had pulled Fritz to give them an extra attacker with hopes of scoring the equalizer. However, Brar came up with the puck and sent a soft one down the ice and Adam Copeland found it and tapped it in to give the Steelheads the two goal win.
