Steamers Contribute in All-Star Game Win

EDENTON, NC - The Coastal Plain League's National All-Stars were victorious over the American All-Stars on Monday night in the CPL's 11th annual All-Star game. The following Edenton Steamers All-Star representatives - Ryan Brenner, Jordan Egan and Brian Blasik - played key roles in the victory in Fayetteville, North Carolina at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the 4th, Ryan Brenner (Miami University-Ohio) led off the inning with a walk. He stole second base and moved to third on a fly out by teammate Anthony Nunziato (Martinsville Mustangs, Lander University). Chase McDonald (East Carolina University), of the Morehead City Marlins, scored Brenner with a single to center field to cut the American lead to 2-1. Brenner had no official at-bats in the game; he was walked twice, scored a run, and stole a base for the National squad.

Jordan Egan (Norfolk State University) came on to pitch for the National team in the bottom of the eighth inning still trailing 2-1. Egan pitched a perfect inning, recording two groundouts and a strikeout to give his National Team one last chance trailing 2-1.

In the top of the ninth, Brian Blasik (University of Dayton) singled to lead off the inning. With the tying run on first base, Morehead City's Zach Stephens (Tennessee Tech) hit a two-run home run to put the Nationals on top 3-2. Blasik came around to score the tying run in front of Stephens. Blasik, went 1-2 with a run scored on the night.

The win went to Egan for his perfect eighth inning of work. It was the seventh time the National team has won the All-Star game since the names were changed from North and South to National and American in 2003.
