Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins traveled to Buck Hardee Field in Wilmington to take on the Sharks for the twelfth time this season, winning by the score of 5-3 on Tuesday night. With the win, the Marlins break above .500 for the fourth time this summer. They wield records of 8-7 in the second half and 22-21 overall.
Starting pitcher Chase Wellbrock was steady as always for the Marlins, throwing eight innings and surrendering just two runs on five hits and improving his record to an undefeated 4-0 for the year.
The hard-hitting pair of Chase McDonald and Zach Stephens drove in every run that crossed the plate for the National All-Star squad on Monday night, and the two sluggers picked up right where they left off. On Tuesday, McDonald and Stephens drove in two runs apiece, combining for four of the Marlins' five RBIs. The Marlins batted around the lineup, sending nine batters to the plate, in a four-run fifth that earned the lead they would keep until the game's conclusion.
Former Marlin Justyn Carter stood out for the Sharks, making a pair of flashy defensive plays at shortstop and posting a 2-for-3 night at the plate. Carter was the only player in the Sharks lineup with multiple hits for the evening, and he also drove in one of Wilmington's two runs.
This Coastal Plain League South rivalry packs up and heads back down the coast on Wednesday for Wells Fargo Night and Marlins Team Photo Giveaway Night at Big Rock Stadium. A 7:05 start time has been set for the Marlins' and Sharks' thirteenth meeting of the season, as gates will open at 6 o'clock.
