Coastal Plain League Names Players of the Week for Week Seven

The Coastal Plain League announced Wednesday that Florence's Blake Barber and Asheboro's Jacob Wilson were named the Rawlings Co-Hitters of the Week, while the Co-Pitchers of the Week honors went to Asheboro's Charlie McCready and Florence's Matthew Campbell for week seven of action (July 12-July 16).

Barber, a junior at Cal State Fullerton, finished the week batting .583 for the RedWolves. He had seven hits in 12 at-bats, including a double, a triple, and a home run. Furthermore, Barber had four RBIs and five runs scored, while racking up 13 total bases and being walked once.. He also had 13 total bases, a 1.083 slugging percentage, a .615 on-base percentage, and was 2-for-2 on stolen bases attempts.

Meanwhile, Wilson, a junior at Memphis, racked up nine hits in 18 at-bats for a .500 average for the Copperheads. His three doubles were tied for the league best on the week, and he added a triple and a homer as well. Wilson was also tied for the league best in runs scored (8) while driving in another six and recording 17 total bags. He had a .944 slugging percentage, a .550 on-base percentage, was walked twice and also had a stolen base.

On the mound, McCready, a junior at Charleston Southern, pitched a complete game shutout at Forest City on July 15 to finish 1-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA on the week. In nine innings of work, the 5-10, 175-pound lefty scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out a league high 11 batters.

Campbell, a freshman from Clemson, pitched masterfully in his start against Columbia on July 14. The 5-11, 180-pound right-hander pitched eight innings of one-hit baseball, while walking four and striking out seven to earn a 1-0 record with a unblemished 0.00 ERA. Further, Campbell held Blowfish batters to a lousy .043 average against him.
