Morehead City Marlins News Release

Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins are now one game out of the South division lead behind the Wilmington Sharks, after beating the Sharks for the second night in a row, 8-6, on Puck O'Neal Field at Big Rock Stadium. The Marlins also defeated the Sharks 5-3 in Wilmington on Tuesday night. The win serves as the Marlins' third in a row, as they've also won six of their last eight.

The Morehead City bullpen combined for 6.1 innings of work, only allowing one run to score and enabling the Marlins offense to simply outscore Wilmington's. Sam Lindquist earned his second win of the year (2-1) in impressive fashion, tossing 3.2 innings. The right-hander out of Stanford University gave up three hits, struck two out, and walked two as he gave up just one run to sustain the Morehead City lead. Then, University of Virginia southpaw Aaron Stull closed it out, earning the three-inning save. Stull walked two and struck out four without surrendering a hit in the game's final stretch.

The Marlins scattered their offense, as all nine hitters in the lineup recorded at least one hit. The outfield did most of the damage offensively, though. Right fielder Jake Carlson was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Center fielder Jake Luce drove in five on two scrappy hits, and left fielder Mike Mercurio out of High Point University was 1-for-3 but came around to score three times.

Tomorrow morning, the Marlins will depart for South Carolina, where they will begin a week-long road trip. Thursday and Friday, Morehead City visits the Columbia Blowfish, and then the Marlins will play the RedWolves in Florence on Saturday. The next Marlins home game will take place next Thursday, July 28, as the Marlins welcome the Petersburg Generals to Morehead City.
