THOMASVILLE, N.C. - The Forest City Owls returned from the All-Star Break on the right foot, defeating the Thomasville Hi-Toms, 10-4, Wednesday night at Finch Field. The Owls snapped a three-game losing streak, improve to 9-6 in the second half and 25-17 overall. The Hi-Toms fall to 10-6 in the second half and 24-20 overall. Thomasville now nurses a half-game lead over the Owls in the battle for first place in the West Division standings.

Andrew Brown (Akron) took the mound for the Owls. Brown tossed six innings of two-run ball, allowing seven hits and striking out five batters without giving up a walk. The Hi-Toms countered with Conner Scarborough (Gardner-Webb). Scarborough threw 6 2/3 innings, surrendering five runs on nine hits and recording one strikeout and one walk apiece. Brown earned his third win of the season, while Scarborough absorbed his fourth loss of the summer.

Forest City struck first in the top of the third inning, when Reed Harper (Austin Peay) laced a single into the right center gap, scoring Michael Basil (Indiana). Harper's RBI base hit snapped the Owls' 26-inning scoreless streak. Danny Canela (N.C. State) tacked on another run immediately afterwards, singling home Buddy Sosnoskie (Francis Marion).

Axel Johnson (TCU), who participated in the CPL All-Star Home Run Derby over the weekend, blasted a solo home run over the right field wall in the top of the fourth inning, boosting the Owls' lead to 3-0.

Thomasville's Stephen Carmon (USC Aiken) crushed a solo home run of his own in the fifth inning, cutting Forest City's advantage to 3-1. The Hi-Toms would crawl closer in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brock Hebert (Southeastern Louisiana) scored on Jacob Fisher's (Southeastern Louisiana) groundout to second. Forest City led 3-2 heading into the seventh inning.

Konstantine Diamaduros (Wofford) sent a two-run home run screaming over the right field wall in the top of the seventh inning, giving the Owls a 5-2 lead. Thomasville returned fire in the bottom of the frame, when Garrett Koster (Elon) raced home on James Harris' (Wake Forest) infield single. The Owls held a 5-3 lead until the top of the eighth inning, when Canela launched a solo homerun to lead off the frame and give Forest City a 6-3 advantage. Harper put the Hi-Toms away in the top of the ninth by clobbering a grand slam over the left field fence, propelling the Owls into double-digit runs. Thomasville scored a token run in the bottom of the ninth but weren't able to overcome Forest City's lead.

The Owls tied their season high in runs scored, and their four home runs are tied for the highest total in the CPL this season. Canela finished 5-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBIs. Harper went 2-for-5 with 5 RBIs. Hebert went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored, while Koster finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.
