State College Spikes News Release

-SPIKES LOOK FOR ANOTHER "W": The State College Spikes start July with a SawBuck Series showdown at home with the Williamsport Crosscutters. Tonight's meeting will be the last in the SawBuck Series until August. Williamsport leads the 2008 edition of the SawBuck Series, 3-1.

-LAST NIGHT: The Crosscutters chipped away at Maurice Bankston for four runs, and the Williamsport combo of Robert Roth and B.J. Rosenberg held the Spikes to no runs on three hits to geta 4-0 win. Matt Payne tripled in the third, but was left on base, to lead all Spikes in total bases. Quincy Latimore also delivered an extra-base hit with a double. Wilson Ortiz pitched 3.1 scoreless innings to keep in close the middle innings, and Yoffri Martinez continued his streak of seven innings without an earned run.

-KELLY RETURNS TO STARTING: Righty Ryan Kelly takes the mound for his first start in ten days. Kelly backed up Kyle McPherson on Thursday in Auburn, and followed McPherson's six innings with three of his own to pick up his first save of the year. McPherson will do the same for Kelly tonight, coming in at a later point in the game. For the year, Kelly has a 5.14 ERA and seven walks in seven innings, along with three strikeouts

-DEJA VU FOR DE FRATUS: Justin De Fratus will start for Williamsport. The right-hander makes his second start of the season against State College. Last week, De Fratus made a seven inning appearance starting for the Crosscutters. He allowed one run on five hits and struck out eight. It was the second consecutive seven-inning start by a Crosscutters starter this year.

-INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Spikes are winless when committing an error this year---All three Spikes wins have come when they score first in the game---3rd baseman Matt Payne is 7-for-17 for a .412 average in the last five games--The Spikes have hit three of their four team home runs against the Crosscutters
