State College Spikes News Release
Friday, June 25 - 7:05 p.m.
Jamestown Jammers - Florida Marlins (4-3) @ State College Spikes - Pittsburgh Pirates (2-5)
Game #8 / Home Game #6 RHP Brooks Pounders (0-1, 0.00) vs. RHP Albaro Estevez (0-1, 18.00)
-JAMMERS MAKE FIRST 2010 VISIT: The State College Spikes host the Jamestown Jammers tonight at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in the two teams' first meeting of the season. The Jammers are looking for a series sweep coming off a series victory at Williamsport, taking two of three from the Crosscutters. It is also the first two-game set of the season for either team, a fact of life when they will play each other five times a year at each home park.
-LAST GAME: The State College Spikes battled back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game going into the ninth inning, but the Jamestown Jammers scored four runs in that frame to take a 9-5 decision at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Thursday night. Kyle Saukko and Justin Bencsko notched back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth. In the sixth, three straight walks opened the Spikes half, allowing Walker Gourley's infield fly and Gift Ngoepe's double to plate three more runs to even the score, 5-5. Jamestown took advantage of three extra-base hits in the ninth inning to reach the final margin.
-POUNDERS THE MOUNDSMAN FOR SPIKES: Another member of the Spikes' young bucks takes the hill tonight as 19-year-old Brooks Pounders makes the start for State College. The right-hander allowed just one unearned run over four innings in his first start of the season in Williamsport, but took the loss. The Temecula, CA native went 2-2 with a 3.04 ERA for the GCL Pirates last summer. Pounders is making his first career start at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park tonight.
-JAMMERS GO WITH ESTEVEZ TO FINISH SERIES: The Jammers will counter with right-hander Albaro Estevez on the mound. Estevez allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits and three walks over two innings of work last time out against Mahoning Valley. The Dominican also hit a hiteer in taking the loss. Estevez joined the GCL Marlins in 2009 after four years with Florida's affiliate in the Dominican Summer League, going 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA in 13 appearances. Estevez also averaged almost a strikeout an inning, with 52 K's in 52.2 innings.
